Annual Oral and Maxillofacial International Conference

The 2015 International Conference of the Israeli Association for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was crowned a success with more than 150 conference attendants.
Dr. Alejandro Roisentul, Head of Ziv's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit and Chairman of the Israeli Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons initiated and organized the conference together with Prof. Nardy Casap, Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem.

The two-day conference, attended by residents, specialists and medical teams from all the leading OMFS departments throughout Israel, focused on the newest technologies for treating cancer of the head and neck.

Three guest speakers, among the leading specialists worldwide, attended the conference. Prof. Julio Acero Sanz, President of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and head of the largest OMFS Dept. in Spain; Dr. Rui Fernandes Chief of Head and Neck Surgery, Director of the Head and Neck/Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship and Associate Chairman of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville and Dr. James Hupp, a Professor of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery and the founding dean of the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine in North Carolina, and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
In addition to the lectures given by the guest speakers, unique medical projects were presented, discussing the solutions for complex situations done in the field of OMFS in Israel and also a residents competition was held.

Dr. Roisentul stated that the participation of international specialists in the conference is an indication of the support and esteem towards the Israeli Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Israel by the international community of specialists in this area. "At a time when there are repeated efforts by international organizations to boycott Israel's academia and isolate Israel, internationally respected experts came to the conference thereby expressing clearly their support of Israeli medicine and research. The visiting surgeons said that Israeli maxillofacial surgeons are highly esteemed in the world and expressed their desire to strengthen research and clinical ties between Israeli institutions and their counterparts abroad". Dr. Roisentul added that in these days of diplomatic storms and discussions about boycotts, the Israeli medical profession continues to offer an island of stability and also serve as loyal ambassadors of Israel.
