New at Ziv Medical Center: Advanced incubator with sophisticated advanced touch screen for continuous follow-up of premature babies

An advanced incubator was recently purchased for Ziv Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit thanks to a generous donation received from BILD hilft e.V. "Ein Herz für Kinder", Germany.

The incubator was added to the five advanced incubators that already operate in the NICU, thereby completing the required number to meet the standards set by the Ministry of Health. The incubator has two operating modes: the first, the closed mode enables the incubator to fill with warm air that surrounds the premature baby, the second mode enables the opening of the incubator, in order to treat the baby, while maintaining the desired temperature through warming lights.

In addition to these features, the new incubator has a sophisticated digital touch screen that enables continuous monitoring, gathering data on the newborn including pulse rate, number of breaths, blood oxygen saturation, weight, body temperature and temperature of the surrounding space, air humidity and so on.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit treats preterm babies, or those who are born on time but with low weight, as well as those with special problems, especially in the respiratory, heart or blood systems, and require special, intensive care in addition to the regular care given to newborn. The NICU at Ziv has a multidisciplinary team of doctors and counselors from various fields of expertise, such as a pediatric cardiologist, an ophthalmologist, social workers and nurses specially trained for preterm care and community liaison. The staff provides parents with assistance and skills to cope with the personal and family challenges that arise during prolonged hospitalization of the newborn.
