Research Institute Inaugurated at Ziv

A new research institute whose aim is to encourage translation research among physicians was inaugurated recently at Ziv Medical Center in Safed. The Institute is a joint venture of Bar-Ilan University's Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee and the Ministry for the Development of the Negev and Galilee.

Approximately NIS 5 million was invested in the establishment of the institute, which is equipped with laboratories for chemistry, molecular genetics and protein and metabolism, all according to international standards. The labs were designed in a way that allows for three independent research groups to study simultaneously in the three fields. The institute also includes a laboratory for students to do further research in the fields of fundamental sciences as well as for their final theses.

Dr. Hadar Neumann, Director of the Research Laboratories, and researcher Dr. Ayelet Omer-Armon, are involved in research projects in the areas of Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, metastatic tumors and ADHD.
