First time in Israel

The life of a 103-year-old man was saved after undergoing an urgent catheterization in Ziv's Cardiology Department.

Basavitch, a member of Kibbutz Kfar Giladi, was brought urgently by an MDA ambulance to Ziv's Emergency Room, in the throes of a heart attack, suffering from severe chest pains and severe ECG fluctuations and being artificially ventilated by the MDA team.

The director of the Catheterization Unit, Dr. Alex Goldberg, and the medical team acted quickly; the tests were done immediately, and Basavitch was assessed as an emergency. Cardiologists often refrain from performing catheterization in such elderly patients because of the risk of complications; however, the benefit of emergency catheterization is great if the patient's physical condition is good for his or her age
