Happy Ending in Ziv's NICU

Five months after he was born at the age of 23 weeks, weighing only 570 gm, little Marselino was released today from the neonatal intensive care unit at Ziv Medical Center in Zefat and is on his way home with his happy and excited parents.

Prof. Arik Shinwell, head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Ziv, notes "The chances of survival for a 23-week-old baby in Israel are less than 10%. This was a very difficult medical situation which included heart surgery soon after birth, intestinal hernia surgery, eye treatments as well as treatments performed by a multidisciplinary medical team. The family invested tremendous efforts in caring for the baby, and there is a happy ending.
