Ziv Medical Center held a first professional meeting of its kind, with the participation of oncologists, surgeons, family physicians, physicists, nurses, radiologists, social workers and patients from the three northern hospitals: the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, The Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poriya and Ziv Medical Center.
The meeting, initiated by Prof. Jamal Zidan, Director of Ziv's Oncology Institute, in cooperation with the Bar Ilan University's Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee, sponsored by the North East Oncology Group and supported by the Israel Cancer Association.

Dr. Salman Zarka, Director of the Ziv Medical Center, praised the initiative saying that the meeting is extremely significant for the health of the residents of the region. "The radiation institute that was inaugurated at the Ziv two years ago and the PET-CT Institute, which was inaugurated last year, alongside the institutes for chemical and biological treatments at the neighboring hospitals, constitute a significant upgrade for the diagnosis and treatment of northern patients, who no longer have to travel to more distant hospitals in Haifa and Tel Aviv to receive life-saving treatments." Dr. Zarka.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Israel and breast cancer is the most common cancer among Jewish and Arab women in Israel. Today there are 22,481 women diagnosed with breast cancer in Israel. The rate of mammography testing in Israel for early detection of breast cancer is higher than the world average. 78% of the new patients are over 50 years of age. The rates of cure and survival of breast cancer in Israel are among the highest in the OECD countries and there is a significant decrease in mortality of about 2% each year and 25% in the last 14 years.

On Thursday, March 14th, 2019, Ziv Medical Center will hold a fund-raising evening for the benefit of Ziv's cancer patients.
