Research Day at Ziv

Ziv Medical Center initiated a research conference, in cooperation with Bar-Ilan University's Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee.

Dr. Hadar Neuman, Director of Ziv's Research Institute and Dr. Radi Shahien, Head of Ziv's Neurology Department and Research Institute, led the conference in which the participants were presented with a wealth of research conducted over the past year in the Research Institute as well as its research plans for the coming year.

Dr. Salman Zarka, Director of the Ziv Medical Center, welcomed the participants, remarking that "The Research Institute, which was inaugurated only a year ago with the assistance of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee and the Ministry for the Development of the Periphery in the Negev and the Galilee, continues to grow and expand thanks to the professional and fruitful cooperation with the Faculty of Medicine and with researchers in prestigious research institutes in Israel and abroad".

During the Research Day fascinating and enriching lectures were delivered, including: "Charles Darwin Returns To Study Medicine", by Prof. Karl Skorecki, Dean of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee; "Comparison of HER2 Expression In Primary Breast Cancer Before and After Innovative Adjuvant Treatment," by Prof. Jamal Zidan, Director of Ziv's Oncology Institute; "Innovative Treatment for Minimally Invasive Surfactant in Premature Infants with Respiratory Distress", by Prof. Eric Shinwell, Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Ziv; "Clinical Genetic Correlations in Hereditary Retinal Diseases" by Dr. Anan Abassi, Ziv's Deputy Director; "Asthma and Ethnicity: Differences between Israeli Jews and Arabs in the Galilee in the Frequency of Asthma Phenotyping," by Dr. Anat Amital, Head of Ziv's Rheumatology and Lung Units, and others.

Grants were awarded to research studies in the basic sciences. A grant from Ziv Medical Center was awarded to Dr. Alaa Suaad of the Department of Internal Medicine B and to Dr. Anan Abu Awad of the Neurobiology Department.
Encouragement grants for research papers presented at international conferences were given to Dr. Fares Zbeidat of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Dr. Saman Naim of the Department of Neurology, on behalf of Prof. Stephen Worsoff, Director of Midwifery and Pregnancy at Risk at the Norfolk Medical College in Virginia, USA and Ziv's management.
