George P. Bush visits Ziv Medical Center


Att. George Prescot Bush visited Ziv Medical Center, Safed on Tuesday (16.8.16), with an entourage of businessmen from Texas and members of the Texas General Land Office. The visit, an initiative of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed his meeting with Israel's President, Mr. Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Mr. Binyamin Netanyahu and Israel's ninth President, Mr. Shimon Peres.

George P. Bush met with Dr. Salman Zarka, General Director of Ziv Medical Center, who recounted Ziv's experience in treating over 650 war casualties from Syria.

Mr. Bush was moved by the photos of the injured children and the humane and medical stories which he heard, praising the General Director and Ziv's staff for their dedicated treatment of the Syrian casualties, an act of kindness which one cannot take for granted. He enquired about the hospital's management of the project, the medical and economic aspects related to the treatment and the patients' return journey to Syrian. Bush said that he was awed and thanked the medical staff for this humanitarian project at Ziv.

Bush visited Ziv's Orthopaedic Department, headed by Prof. Alexander Lerner, where he spoke to a number of Syrian casualties who told him about their injuries and the professional treatment they are receiving in Israel. Prof. Lerner who accompanied the visit told Mr. Bush about the complex surgery the casualties undergo due to their severe war injuries. Prof. Lerner believes that every limb should be saved, regardless of the severity of the injury, even when this requires lengthy hospitalization and intensive rehabilitation for many of the patients.

Mr. Bush was pleasantly surprised to meet Dr. Jay Reidler, a third year resident in Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore . Mr. Bush stated that it was necessary to strengthen ties between medical teams in the USA and Israel.

At the conclusion of his visit, Mr. Bush signed the hospital's guest book stating that his team and himself are thankful for the opportunity to learn more about the hospital's incredible work.

AttorneyGeorge Prescott Bush, a native Texan born in Houston in 1976, is a U.S. Navy Reserve officer, real estate investor and politician, who serves as the Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office .He was elected to this position on Nov. 4, 2014 and took office in January 2015.
