Pharmacological Innovations and Trends


A nation-wide conference for pharmacists, organized by Ziv Medical Center's Pharmacological Services, was held for the first time in northern Israel.
One hundred and twenty leading pharmacists, directors of pharmacies of governmental medical centers, pharmacists from hospitals and communities and pharmacy students, participated in the conference titled "Innovations and Trends in Modern Pharmacology".

The three-day conference offered participants a large variety of lectures by pharmacists, researchers and doctors on a wide range of subjects including new treatments, medicinal innovations, technological developments, quality standards set by the Ministry of Health, future challenges of pharmacology in the academia, and more.
Dr. David Kinder, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences, School of Pharmacy at the Ohio Northern University in the US was guest speaker.

Mr. Zuheir Farraj, Director of the Pharmacy Services at Ziv Medical Center, initiator and chairman of the conference, said that it was the first time that an important pharmacology conference was held in northern Israel with a tremendous response from professionals country-wide. "Usually conferences in this field are held in the center of the country, but with cooperation from the members of the forum of hospital pharmacy directors, the venue of the conference was moved to the north. The relaxed atmosphere led to an especially productive and successful conference. We aim to host our colleagues from all parts of the country in an annual, high standard conference, combining professional lectures with the beautiful nature of the north" said Farraj. "The conference provided an excellent opportunity for establishing multi-disciplinary collaboration between the participants, in research and development of pharmaceutical advances" Mr. Farraj added.

Dr. Salman Zarka, Director of Ziv Medical Center said that the market for medication is developing at an accelerated rate and it is necessary to be updated regularly in the advancements in this field in order to offer the best possible treatment for each illness and to every patient. "From an economic aspect, correct use of medication can bring about a significant economic saving for the health systems" stated Dr. Zarka.
